About the Author
Patrick Labelle has a PhD in theoretical physics from Cornell University and held a postdoctoral position for two years at McGill University. He has been teaching physics at the college level for twelve years at Bishop’s University and Champlain Regional College in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Dr. Labelle spent summers doing research both at the Centre Européen de Recherches Nucléaires (CERN) in Geneva, home of the Large Hadron Collider, and at Fermilab, the world’s second largest particle accelerator near Chicago. He has published a dozen papers in particle physics and has participated in the French translation of Brian Greene’s The Elegant Universe (in the role of technical adviser).

Great Introduction to a Tough Subject

This is the best book I've seen to date on supersymmetry and, at nearly 500 pages, it doesn't skimp on the elementary details one needs to get a firm grasp on the subject. I've always believed that a basic understanding of supersymmetry has been unnecessarily hampered by the notation, which is far more complicated than that of any other relativistic theory (that's putting it mildly; the notation is truly exasperating). But the author is aware of this, and the first few chapters provide the most gentle explanation I've seen yet (particularly the notation of dotted and undotted spinors). That said, you'll still need to have a fairly decent background in quantum field theory to do the calculations, especially those presented in Chapter 9.
By the time you've digested the book's material on abelian and non-abelian gauge theories, you should be convinced that supersymmetry is a truly beautiful theory. However, like string theory there's no experimental data to support supersymmetry, so the question of whether it's all just empty, non-physical mathematical formalism has yet to be answered.

Another fine example from this wonderful series

I am really impressed with the DeMYSTiFieD series of books, and supersymmetry is another fine example. McMahon (quantum field theory, relativity, quantum mechanics, string theory) got me started on the series, and Labelle makes good company.
I was a physics major in college, and left the field to raise a family as a computer programmer. These books fill a void I've had ever since, and I recommend them to anyone with reasonable math background interested in deepening their knowledge.
(Actually, if you are obsessed enough on the topic of modern physics, you can gain the math background as well starting at earlier points in the DeMYSTiFieD series. Earnest readers can enter the series just about anywhere from high school math to grad math.)
In addition to fine authors, the editors and publisher deserve praise for supporting this series. All books I've seen are affordable, well-constructed, filled with good material without fluff, and have well-chosen authors.

Supersymmetry DeMYSTiFied

I found this a great reading book and the contents are outlined with new theories, which will help to advance graduate students in Theoretical Physics. I strongly recommend this as a good reference book to further explore the fields of Super Algebra, Super fields, Weyl Spinors and Gauge theory, but prior knowledge of Tensor Calculus, Quantum Field Theory and Quantum Mechanics is required.
