Twenty years have passed since Darth Bane, reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, demolished the ancient order devoted to the dark side and reinvented it as a circle of two: one Master to wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice to learn, challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the death. But Bane's acolyte, Zannah, has yet to engage her Master in mortal combat and prove herself a worthy successor. Determined that the Sith dream of galactic domination will not die with him, Bane vows to learn the secret of a forgotten Dark Lord that will assure the Sith's immortality - and his own.
A perfect opportunity arises when a Jedi emissary is assassinated on the troubled mining planet Doan, giving Bane an excuse to dispatch his apprentice on a fact-finding mission - while he himself sets out in secret to capture the ancient holocron of Darth Andeddu and its precious knowledge. But Zannah is no fool. She knows that her ruthless Master has begun to doubt her, and she senses that he is hiding something crucial to her future. If she is going to claim the power she craves, she must take action now.
While Bane storms the remote stronghold of a fanatical Sith cult, Zannah prepares for her Master's downfall by choosing an apprentice of her own: a rogue Jedi cunning and cold-blooded enough to embrace the Sith way and to stand beside her when she at last wrests from Bane the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith.
But Zannah is not the only one with the desire and power to destroy Darth Bane. Princess Serra of the Doan royal family is haunted by memories of the monstrous Sith soldier who murdered her father and tortured her when she was a child. Bent on retribution, she hires a merciless assassin to find her tormentor - and bring him back alive to taste her wrath.
Only a Sith who has taken down her own Master can become Dark Lord of the Sith. So when Bane suddenly vanishes, Zannah must find him - possibly even rescue him - before she can kill him. And so she pursues her quarry from the grim depths of a ravaged world on the brink of catastrophe to the barren reaches of a desert outpost, where the future of the dark side's most powerful disciples will be decided, once and for all, by the final, fatal stroke of a lightsaber.

Another great book by a talented author
By Spirit of Redemption
This is a great way to end the Darth Bane trilogy and even if Drew Karpyshyn does not continue on with Darth Zannah's adventures, this is a perfect way to go out. To me, Darth Bane is as interesting (if not more so) as any Sith Lord we've heard of, including Darth Sidious. He was a well-developed, intriguing character that I enjoyed getting to know through the course of three books.
The pacing of the book was excellent and the new characters introduced helped raise the tension as the book built to its climax. There seemed to be many ways for the story to end still, even with only 20 pages left. And that is a great compliment for any book or author.
I still believe the Darth Bane books are the best of the Expanded Universe books, even better than the Timothy Zahn trilogy that started them all.

Evil Comes Full Circle
By JMack
Having finished reading the Darth Bane Trilogy, I feel no sense of disappointment. Drew Karpyshyn is solid storyteller with good pacing. The reader never gets a sense that something is "filler" in the story. Though some have pointed out minor contradictions in the Darth Bane character, these readers seem to have the pure purpose of finding a flaw.
"Dynasty of Evil" finds Darth Bane feeling vulnerable. Physical ailments are becoming more apparent, and Bane is certain that his apprentice Darth Zannah has noticed. The time for the apprentice to become the master is drawing near. Bane questions whether Zannah is a worthy apprentice and begins a search for the secrets of immortality.
But even as Bane seeks self-preservation, Zannah plans her path as Darth Lord of the Sith. She discovers the vary flaws in herself that Bane recognizes. Unaware that Bane is trying to seek immortality, she even finds an apprentice who combines the suave of James Bond with a college slacker. The Jedi hover in the background of the story as the Sith take center stage. Characters from the previous books reappear and play a key role in the book. Even naming the characters would risk revealing the ending.
For a moment, I thought the endig would be inappropriate. Without giving the ending away, Karpyshyn chose the correct way to end the series. My only regret is that the series is over. Darth Bane is an incredibly compelling character.

A Duel of Sith Lords
By Todd O'Rourke
"Star Wars: Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil" is the final part to the Darth Bane trilogy, which in my opinion is one of the best series in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (EU). This novel continues ten years after the events of "Rule of Two", the second novel in the trilogy. To avoid plot spoilers of the first two novels, I will try and make the summary of the plot as broad as possible.
With the Rule of Two established: one Master to wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice to learn, challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the death. However, things aren't necessary going according to plan. Darth Zannah, Bane's acolyte, has yet to prove herself in mortal combat with her master. Determined that the Sith Empire will not collapse and die with Bane, he vows to learn how to become immortal.
I will be honest, as much as I like Darth Bane; I actually ended up liking Zannah more by the end of this novel. It seems to me that author Drew Karpyshyn has spent more time developing Zannah, which may or may not be a good thing depending on how fascinated you are with her character. She steals the novel with more complexities that develop her character more than the last two books. She is also part of a side plot that brings new life into the series.
I have always been a supporter of Karpyshyn and his bodies of work; however, I must admit that this is the weakest novel in the series. He reworks ideas that have already been developed in the first two novels. Bane ultimately goes on another adventure to become an unstoppable force of destruction, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it becomes more of the same old. Moreover, it also seems that the author's ability to create fresh ideas has all but diminished.
Although Karpyshyn's writing is not top notch, and his ideas are just a rehash, this novel is certainly one of the best novels in the EU. The negative portions of the novel do not out weigh the positives, and as such, I recommend this novel to anyone who has read the series.
