Formatting and notes in Kindle version would have made things much easier

This review pertains to the Kindle version.
As someone very familiar with Greek mythology, this was my first reading of Hesiod and "Theogony". While I have read translations of Homer and Virgil, I've never ventured beyond. I have to say I found the translation difficult for a few reasons. First, the source material is laced with implied information that would not cause Hesiod's contemporaries much confusion at all. A casual reader of Greek mythology, well, that's another thing. I can certainly say I became lost during the complex genealogies presented throughout this very brief work. Some of this confusion could have been reduced with more expansive notes and other explanatory information for today's reader to make it a much richer reading experience. The notes in this version are very minimal. Lastly, and this is certainly more specific to the Kindle version, the formatting doesn't assist in the comprehension of Homeric verse. In fact, the single block paragraphs are more of a hindrance. Still, the Titanomachy and other flurries of action make this very worth the inexpensive download.

Classical Paganism

If the Supreme Court of the United States were to issue a definitive ruling stating that freedom OF religion did not include freedom FROM religion, and that everyone must declare a religious affiliation I would, unhesitatingly choose the classical paganism of Hesiod with its beautifully poetic goddesses and gods.
